The Hayange steel mill, was the last steel mill in Lorraine, that had blast furnaces, it wasn't however the last blast furnaces of Lorraine. This title goes to saint Gobain. But those here were for steel making and that they did here. From 1909 till 2011 they were among the biggest works in Lorraine, close down due to a bad location, far away from any coast and too outdated. The owner company had to decide in the financial crisis. They even tried running this plant on an arc furnace, but ultimately couldn't make it profitable again.
